There are many opportunities to deepen your prayer life this Lent. Be sure to check out this webpage listing the many opportunities for prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Contemplative Prayer will meet at its usual weekly time this Saturday at 8:30 AM in the Church. Guided by David Anderson, this 45 minute gathering includes a period of twenty minutes for meditative prayer followed by a brief time for conversation and sharing about personal experiences with contemplative prayer practice.  Christian contemplation is attuning to God’s presence by simply being fully conscious in the present moment. Various tools include centering prayer, the Jesus prayer, the breath prayer, lectio divina, and labyrinth walking. Learn more.

Family Bowling Night

Jan 2

On the Feast of the Holy Family we heard the Gospel story of when Joseph and Mary, worried sick, finally found the 12-year-old Jesus in the Temple of Jerusalem. This was a family not without its stress and challenges. Recall that soon after Jesus was born they became refugees, fleeing to Egypt to avoid Herod's murderous bloodbath (not everyone was so fortunate: the feast of the Holy Innocents, the children that were murdered with the hope that Jesus would be among them, is celebrated each December 28th). In recent years we have become more aware of various refugee situations throughout the world, including those knocking on the door of our own country as they seek to escape the poverty and violence of their homelands.

Thank you to Celine Woznika, Mary Catherine Meek, the Peace & Justice committee, and the many volunteers who made this happen. The display of crèches from around the world was a powerful reminder of the connection between refugees today and the Holy Family. Thank you to Aracely's Bakery for donating delicious pan dulce and other delicious baked goods; and to the representatives from Loom and Catholic Charities Resettlement Services who were on hand to answer questions and share information. And thank you to the Art Institute of Chicago for donating tickets.
