Dec 1

Despite the rain cookie and craft lovers turned out in droves on December 1st! Thanks to the many, many home bakers in our Parish and School there were plenty of cookies. The crafters welcomed browsers and purchasers until closing  time. Ascension Wome'ns Cooperative is grateful for all bakers, volunteers and crafters.

Today after the 5:00 mass, Mrs. Kathy Walsh, family and friends gathered near the statue of Mary. Last fall, a young flowering crab tree was planted in hopes it would thrive in this location. Fr. Hurlbert spoke of Deacon Joe Walsh, in whose memory the tree was planted. Today the tree and a plaque were blessed with Holy Water and the Our Father was recited. Ascension was blessed to have Deacon Walsh serve here for nine years. He had attended Ascension School, and was a parishioner for 66 years. Look for Deacon Walsh's tree behind Mary on the East Avenue side.

Ascension is planning to participate in Church League Basketball, a fun yet competitive organization for high school girls.  The season runs from April 8 through late May, with 1-2 practices and 1 game every week (6 regular games plus playoffs), with most games taking place on Saturday nights in the western suburbs.  There is a fee for playing, although the exact cost will vary based on interest. We’re hoping to field a freshman-senior team.
