Select an Angel for our annual Christmas Angel Project following all Masses on November 11 & 12. This year gifts will benefit families and individuals affiliated with St. Martin de Porres, New Moms, and Franciscan Outreach.
Angel gift and gift card drop off will be Friday, December 8th from 3:30 until 8 p.m. in the school gym
For over 40 years, the Ascension Christmas Angel Project has provided parishioners the opportunity to share the joy of Christmas with those in need. The Christmas Angel Project offers each parishioner a chance to purchase a gift, gift card or food gift card for a person or family affiliated with select organizations.
This year the organizations are:
St. Martin de Porres, a long standing sharing parish for Ascension, is located in Austin and strives to foster full participation and demonstrate concern for the needs of all, bringing faith, hope and love to the Westside Community. St. Martin de Porres asks for wrapped gifts based on individual requests along with "dinner angels" or gift cards for food.
New Moms provides services to new mothers and their children with locations both in Chicago and in Oak Park. Their mission is to provide pre- and post-natal education and other services to help new mothers become their children’s first, best teachers. This is our first year working with New Moms and we look forward to helping these young families have a blessed Christmas. New Moms requests unwrapped gifts based on a "wish list" for both kids and moms. The gifts will be placed in a "store" where kids and moms can shop for each other.
Franciscan Outreach, established in 1963, helps hundreds of homeless in the Chicago area every year. They provide meals, shelter, showers, and laundry facilities to people in the model of respect and dignity of St. Francis of Assisi. Because of the work that they do with the homeless, Franciscan Outreach specifically requests gift cards.
Following Masses on November 11 and 12, paper Angels will be hanging at each entrance. We invite you to take an Angel(s), purchase the gift or gift card listed, and return the gift on Friday, December 8 from 3:30-8 p.m. in the school gym (entrance on Clarence Avenue).
While we recognize that many parishioners enjoy purchasing and wrapping a gift for individuals and families, please know that gift cards are specifically requested by two of our organizations and, although they may not be as fun to purchase, are just as appreciated and valued by the recipient.
