Renew My Church: Be part of the conversation

As you may have read or heard, the Archdiocese of Chicago is moving forward on its Renew My Church plan of bringing parishes together in groupings and, in some cases, merging parishes to create new structures for bringing faith to life. One tool which the Archdiocese has been encouraging is the reading of a book Divine Renovation: Bringing your parish from maintenance to mission written by Fr. James Mallon. We would like to offer all parishioners an opportunity to engage in conversation about this important book. Join us on the following Saturdays from 1-2:30 pm - August 18 and 25, September 8, 15, 22, 29.

Please register by this Friday, August 10 by sending our Pastoral Associate, Mary Catherine Meek,  an e-mail at mc.meek@ascensionoakpark.com. We look forward to a great discussion!

As you may have read or heard, the Archdiocese of Chicago is moving forward on its Renew My Church plan of bringing parishes together in groupings and, in some cases, merging parishes to create new structures for bringing faith to life. An impetus for these changes is not only some of the obvious causes (fewer worshippers, deferred maintenance, non-existent or uninspiring faith formation, and so on), but also a desire to help our people discover (or rediscover) their personal relationship with Christ.  Catholics are notoriously reticent to share their faith or proselytize.  Renew My Church hopes to help all Catholics acknowledge their regular encounters with Christ which helps them “be” Christ to others as they go about their daily living.

One tool which the Archdiocese has been encouraging is the reading of a book Divine Renovation: Bringing your parish from maintenance to mission written by Fr. James Mallon.  Members of our Parish Staff and Parish Council are currently reading this book and will have discussions about it in upcoming meetings.

We would like to offer all parishioners an opportunity to engage in conversation about this important book.  Beginning on Saturday, August 18 from 1:00 – 2:30 PM in the Parish Center, interested parishioners may join is a guided reading and discussion group.  A Divine Renovation group reading guide will serve as the tool for the facilitated discussion by our Pastoral Associate, Mary Catherine Meek.  Registration is required and the reading guide will be supplied by the parish.  Participants should provide their own copy of the book and read through P. 25 before the first meeting.  Subsequent meeting dates are: August 25, September 8, 15, 22, and 29.  (We will not meet Labor Day weekend.)

Please register by August 6 by sending our Pastoral Associate, Mary Catherine Meek,  an e-mail at mc.meek@ascensionoakpark.com. We look forward to a great discussion!
