Lego League Competition

Chicago West Speer Academy hosted First LEGO League on Sunday, December 10.  Ascension Technology Club sent 18 team members.  Mr. Matt Mueller, Ms. Mindy Dillon ,and Mr. Jason Huggins served as team moderators.  The competition celebrates students’ dedication for engineering, research and robotics!

Ballet Legere's The Nutcracker

Monday, December 11, grade 1 to grade 8 attended Dominican University’s performance of The Ballet Legere’s The Nutcracker.  The holiday treat was sponsored by the Ascension Home and School Association and an anonymous donor.  Students sat with their Buddies! Ascension School is proudly represented with Hannah Howorth as Clara and Elizabeth Schmiedeler as an angel.  Congratulations, Hannah and Elizabeth! Thanks, Home & School and generous donor!

The Grade 5 Exploratorium

Fifth grade students have been researching  and writing about a European explorer to the "New World" as integrated Social Studies and Language Arts learning. On Thursday, each class shared information and materials relating to their explorer with a fourth grade class. They are experts on their subjects, so if you have any lingering questions about Hernando de Soto, Juan Ponce de Leon, Hernan Cortes, or Francisco Pizarro, just let us know!

Christmas Angels Due Friday!

Ascension Parish and the children of Ascension choose to be Christmas Angels for others. Every class does what they can to help. Third graders are participating! Donations were collected to purchase gifts for children in need. Bring donated gifts and gift cards to the gym on Friday, December 8 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM.

Permission Slips!

Home and School is sending grades 1 - 8 to the Nutcracker Ballet at Dominican University on December 11. We need a Nutcracker permission slip for each child A.S.A.P.! 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament permission slips are due Tuesday!

Ax of Murder

You've heard of haunted houses, but — a haunted PLAY? Come join the fun and help solve the mystery as a group of theater people try to figure out if a haunted play is out for revenge! Who is next to be murdered?! Ascension's Aspiring Actors are directed by Mrs. Lippi. Performances are on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 4:30 PM. and Saturday, December 9 at 2:00 PM. Cost is $7.00 per adult and $4.00 per student. Hope to see you there!

Reading Olympics

Ascension fifth graders competed in the Fall Reading Olympics on Wednesday, November 29th. Eleven teams squared off to answer difficult questions about nine books. The Sensational Bookworms, comprised of Ella, Kelsey, Maya, and Grace, emerged with a one-point victory at the end of seven close rounds. They will go on to compete against the winning teams from 11 other Oak Park and River Forest schools on Friday, December 8th. Good luck Bookworms!  Read more and see our pictures!
