I began my teaching career at Ascension School in 1997. My educational background is a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies from the University of Notre Dame and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Dominican University. Motivated by a passion for literature, my goal is to provide the right book for the right student at the right time. The result is a more enthusiastic, motivated student, a student who is confident and self-assured. I strive to install a love of reading in all of my students. Helping students and teachers access information and books is my primary task.
Grades Kindergarten through 5th grade visit the library once a week. Students spend half of the period selecting and checking out a book. For the second half of the period I follow a library curriculum which includes several different units of study. Some of these are author studies, creative writing projects, readers’ theater, folktale and fractured fairytales, the poets’ corner, primary grade animal research, and biographies.
The library is also the site of the very popular Spring Book Fair when every student is able to shop and all proceeds go towards adding new books to the collection.
I am also a Certified SLANT Reading and Learning Resource Teacher at Ascension. I enjoy working with small groups of students, as well as one on one, both in and out of the classroom.
