Music Ministry News 2024-25

 SING A NEW SONG TO THE LORD! 

Consider sharing your musical gifts with the music ministry of our parish! All adult choirs are open to singers, high school age and older. We have three adult choirs and one children’s choir in the parish. All new potential adult members are asked to contact David Anderson at the Ascension Music office, 708- 434-1535, or email him at [email protected]. Michael Silhavey is the Associate musician at the St. Edmund site and is the director of the St. Edmund Choir. (Contact Michael at [email protected])

 

 

Ascension Schola

The Schola rehearses 2 Tuesdays each month from 7:00-8:30pm and sings at the 8:00 am Mass on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. Our first rehearsal is Tuesday, September 20, 7:00-8:30pm.  New members in all voice parts are welcome!

Ascension Choir                                                                                                                                                                

The Ascension Choir rehearses 3-4 Wednesday evenings each month. We sing at the 10:30 am Mass on all but the first Sunday of each month.  Our first rehearsal is Wednesday, September 11, from 7:00-8:45pm. New members in all voice parts are welcome.

The St. Edmund Choir

The St. Edmund Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings in Murphy Hall at St. Edmund and sings at the Saturday 5:00pm Mass. Our first rehearsal is Wednesday, September 4, from 7:00-8:30pm. New members in all voice parts are welcome.

 

 

 

The Choristers (our parish choir for children and youth) are for young people in grades 3-8.  Choristers  rehearse once each week on Tuesdays or Wednesdays depending on the grade level. This year, young people in grades 6-8 will practice on Tuesdays from 3:05-4:00pm. Young people in grades 3-5 will practice on Wednesdays from 3:05-4:00pm. Our first practices of the year are Tuesday, September 10, (grades 6-8) and Wednesday, September 11, (grades 3-5) from 3:05-4:00pm in church. A snack is served at 3:05pm. Contact Mr. Anderson if you have any questions. Permission slips will be available through the School, the Religious Ed programs or click on the link below. For 2024-2025, choristers will normally (with several exceptions) sing once a month at the 10:30am Mass on the first Sunday.

String Ensemble

The String Ensemble plays for the Saturday 5:00 pm Mass, usually on the 4th Saturday of each month. Rehearsal is before the Mass. Membership is open to all high school string players. Adult string players are also welcome to join this group as well. For more information, contact Becky Coffman, Associate Organist and strings coordinator at [email protected]or  at 434-1561.

 

Instrumentalists

Other Instrumentalists of the parish are also welcome to offer their talents at various parish Masses. If you are fairly proficient at a particular musical instrument and would like to offer your talents, then give David Anderson a call or send an email as noted above. Music is provided!
